All new clients begin with an Initial Assessment. This gives me an opportunity to learn about you as an athlete or performer, your background and current performance demands, existing strengths and mental skills, performance-related concerns or goals, and areas you would like to continue developing. From there, I develop an individualized Athlete/Performer Profile and provide recommendations for next steps.
-
Nope!
Mental performance consulting isn't limited to sports. I work with athletes, performers, and other individuals who face performance demands and want to strengthen skills such as confidence, focus, resilience, preparation, and performing under pressure. The specific performance environment may look different, but the work is individualized around your goals and demands.
-
Mental performance consulting through MMPC is a self-pay service and is not billed to insurance. MMPC does not submit insurance claims or provide services under an insurance-based model. Payment is made directly by the client for services provided.
-
No. The Initial Assessment does not require a commitment to ongoing services. Recommendations are individualized based on your goals and needs, and continued consulting may include individual sessions, a package for more consistent support, or other services when appropriate.
-
Counseling focuses on mental health and emotional well-being and may address concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, or life stressors. Mental performance consulting focuses specifically on the mental skills and psychological factors connected to performance, such as confidence, focus, resilience, preparation, emotional regulation, and performing under pressure.
The two can also complement one another. Someone may participate in mental performance consulting while also receiving counseling or other healthcare services, as long as the goals addressed through MMPC remain focused on performance.
-
Mental performance consulting may be a good fit if you’re looking to strengthen your mental skills, build on existing strengths, address performance-related challenges, or continue developing how you perform under pressure.
You do not need to be struggling or experiencing a performance problem to benefit from consulting. Athletes, performers, and other high-achieving individuals may use mental performance consulting to support growth, preparation, consistency, confidence, focus, resilience, and continued development.
If your primary concerns extend beyond the performance context or would be better addressed through mental health treatment or another healthcare service, we can discuss appropriate next steps or additional support.
-
Yes, absolutely. Performance consulting is a great complement to counseling. Counseling focuses on emotional wellness and healing, while coaching helps you strengthen mental skills and optimize performance. Many of my clients actively do both.
-
No. Services provided through MMPC are mental performance consulting, not psychotherapy or mental health treatment. While I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), my role through MMPC is as a Mental Performance Consultant. My approach is informed by my training and experience in both sport and performance psychology and clinical mental health counseling, and I may incorporate evidence-based strategies from these areas when appropriate within the performance context.
If concerns arise that extend beyond the scope of mental performance consulting, I will discuss appropriate next steps and may recommend additional support from a mental health, medical, or other qualified provider.
-
Yes. Parents and legal guardians are welcome to inquire about services on behalf of their child or teenager. For clients under 18, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent before services begin.
I believe young athletes and performers benefit from an appropriate level of privacy that allows them to participate openly and develop independence. Parents and guardians may be included in the process when appropriate, while maintaining clear communication around goals, progress, recommendations, and any concerns requiring their involvement.
-
Yes! Mental performance consulting is available both virtually and in person. Availability may vary based on scheduling, location, and the type of service requested. Formal observations and other on-site services may also be available when appropriate.
-
Yes. Formal Performance Observations may be scheduled when seeing an athlete or performer within their actual performance environment would be beneficial. Observations may take place at practices, games, competitions, tournaments, or other performance settings. Travel fees may apply depending on location and circumstances.
